Detail Itinerary
Day 1: Saturday, Hanoi - Mai Chau (D)
 
Begin this adventure tour our tour guide picks you up at your hotel in Hanoi and drives you to Mai Chau. During the trip we enter the dramatic northern mountainous area where you will be overwhelmed by sublime beauty and serenity. In Hoa Binh we will make a stop to make an interesting boat trip on the Da River where we visit the Muong and the Dzao minorities.
We will continue our way up to Mai Chau, passing some magnificent viewpoints, which offer you a panoramic view of the valley. In the afternoon we arrive in Pom Koong, a village of the White Thai people who inhabited the major part of the area. During the evening, we are going to enjoy a traditional dance and drink Ruou Can, a local rice wine.
We have dinner and spend the night in the houses of the native people, which will be without a doubt an experience for life. Be prepared that the living conditions are different from the ones you are accustomed to at home. However, mattresses, blankets and mosquito-nets are present for you.
 


 Day 2: Sunday, Mai Chau - Son La (B)
 
Waken up by the chickens and roasters of the village in the early morning. After a by our host prepared breakfast we are going to walk around town to experience the true essence of daily life of the local people. Later this morning we will continue our trip by car and drive towards Son La. We plan to make a stop at the tea plantation of Moc Chau and have a tea break with the H'mong tribe. During our way we also visit some Black Thai villages and make a little promenade over the amazing by hand-made bridges.
After arrival in Son La Town we visit the impressive Colonial Prison. We spend the night in a hotel.
 
Day 3: Monday,  Son La - Dien Bien Phu - Lai Chau (B) The road we follow today is spectacular as we climb the Pha Din Pass , known as the second highest and longest pass of Vietnam with an altitude of 1,500 m. The view is breathtaking and magnificent. At the middle pass, we visit a multi-ethnic primary school and a village of the White H'mong hill tribe where children in colorful traditional clothing welcome us with warm smiles. In Dien Bien Phu , we visit famous sites of the Indochina War led by the French in 1954, such as De Castrie PC, the War museum and Elliane Hill. After lunch in a local restaurant we continue our way to Lai Chau and notice the ‘Red H'mong girls with big hair’ on the side of the road. Lai Chau is our overnight stop for today. It will not take long before this town will be completely disappeared. A large dam is planned to be open between now and some years.
 
Day 4: Tuesday, Lai Chau - Tam Duong (B) The picturesque road from Lai Chau to Tam Duong goes along the Chinese Border and the Nam Na River. We visit some Black Thai villages, which are famous because of their wooden houses on piles. During the way we cross a footbridge leading us to Kh'Mu Village, an important hill-tribe similar to the Lao people in terms of language and traditions. Before arrival in Tam Duong, a stop at Man Tien Village is scheduled. We spend the night in a guest-house in Tam Duong.
 
Day 5: Wednesday, Tam Duong trekking (B) Tam Duong is a frontier town situated in a beautiful valley between limestone rocks. This place is the home of many hill tribes such as the H'Mong, Man Tien, Lu and Cu Chu people. Authentic in lifestyle and colorful in costumes, most of the tribes were emigrated from South China during the 17th - 18th century. A full day of trekking through their villages, hidden behind mountains and hills, enables us to learn how self-sufficient life is. A picnic is prepared for lunch. We will continue our trip with visiting a home-run tea factory as the area is famous for its tea plantation. Also this night is spent in the Tam Duong guest-house.
 
Day 6: Thursday, Tam Duong - Sapa (B)
This morning we are going to visit the Tam Duong Multi-Ethnic Market, an ideal place to meet local people. Ethnic groups from every part of the region come here to exchange their agricultural and handicraft products. After this interesting experience of interacting with the local people, we make a promenade to Pa Pe, a village of the Lu minority. The people here are famous because of their black teeth. When girls have the age of 10 they have to chew a certain type of plant (growing in the woods) which causes black moisture upon the teeth. Having black teeth is considered as a symbol of beauty in this tribe. After this amazing visit we continue our way to Sapa. Stop at Tram Ton Pass -the highest pass in Vietnam , 1900m, view the heaven gate and large valley and nice Silver Waterfall. We come higher and higher in altitude as we reach Sapa where we spend the night in a hotel. 
 
Day 7: Friday, Trekking in Sapa (B) Sapa is not only an ideal place for retreat with its moderate climate, it is also a place of cultural value and breathtaking mountainous scenery. The town of Sapa is inhabited by colorful hill tribes, which are based on the foot of Fan Xi Pan Mount and other surrounding valleys. Here we spend our whole day trekking around the river of Sapa Valley, crossing suspension bridges and witnessing green rice terraces. During our trek we will again be exposed to local life and the daily activities. We trek up and down and through bamboo forest, see three different ethnic minorities until we stop at a nice waterfall in GiangTaChai Village of the Red-Dzao to spend the night in the house of a local family.
 
Day 8: Saturday, Sapa - Bac Ha (B) We continue our walk to the village of SuPan where we will be picked up by our driver who brings us to Bac Ha. During this ride we pass the Chinese border (Lao Cai) where you can get a glimpse of the Chinese town of Hekou , and visit a nice temple there, located just at the other side of the Red River . Bac Ha is situated in the highlands and is mostly populated by the beautifully dressed Flower H'mong minority (famous for its multi-ethnic market). The environment is paved with plum trees. If you visit the town in spring you will be overwhelmed by the beauty of the white plum blossom. We spend the night in a hotel in Bac Ha.
 
Day 9: Sunday, Bac Ha - Thac Ba Lake (B, L, D)
From the early morning, thousands of people of different minorities from every corner of the area flock out to Bac Ha for their weekly most important activity, Bac Ha Sunday Market. Living in the high and remote mountains, these people consider the Sunday Market as a good chance to go out, meet people, drink alcohol and exchange their handy-made products. We will see a lot of hill tribes in colorful dressing participating in this colorful melting point.
We continue our drive to Thac Ba Lake . This night we stay with our friendly host in his beautifully constructed stilts house at the lake side.
 
Day 10: Monday, Thac Ba Lake - Hanoi (B)
Thac Ba is the biggest man-made lake in Vietnam and captivates travelers with its incredible authentic beauty and more than 300 islets under lush vegetation. We participate on a boat trip and visit some Dzao and Tay villages. After lunch in a local restaurant we will return to Hanoi
.

Detail Itinerary
Day 1: Hanoi Arrival (D)
 
Arrive at Noi Bai Airport. Pick up and transfer to a hotel. Hanoi, Vietnam's capital, boasts tree-lined streets and centuries-old temples. An afternoon sightseeing tour features both cultural and historical highlights, comprising the Temple of Literature, the Ethnology Museum, the old quarters and a downtown pedicab ride (1 hour). Overnight in Hanoi.

Day 2: Hanoi - Son La (B, D, L)
 


 Spend the whole day on coach relishing the new road through Hoang Lien Son Mountains to Son La (320km). Take a stop-over at Ta Khoa Bridge on Da River Lake with panoramic views of lake, forest and mountain. There are opportunities to enjoy the friendliness of the H'mong tribe en route. In the evening, enjoy a cultural show of Black Thai at Bo village. Overnight in Son La.

Day 3: Son La - Dien Bien Phu (B, L, D)
 
Before leaving for Dien Bien Phu (170km), visit Thuan Chau Market where Black Thai women gather to exchange all kinds of farm products and hand-weaving brocades. Stop by at Pha Din Pass, famous for its magnificent mountain scenery. In the afternoon, travel via Muong Phang, enjoy a short trek through dense forest (1km) to visit General Giap's legendary tunnels. Thai villages surrounded by paddy fields are worth visiting en route. Overnight in Dien Bien Phu.

Day 4: Dien Bien Phu - Lai Chau (B, L, D)
 
Dien Bien Phu, a famous valley at an elevation of 550m by the Vietnam ' Laos border. In the morning, explore Dien Bien Market and former battle field: Dien Bien Phu museum, Eliance Hill (A1 Hill), Nam Rom River and De Castries' bunker. Transfer to Lai Chau (105km), a small town along Nam Lay Stream, encounter Red H’mong village en route. Overnight in Lai Chau.

Day 5: Lai Chau - Sapa (B, L, D)
 
Admire the beautiful Lai Ha Suspension Bridge and Hang Tom Suspension Bridge near Lai Chau Town. Leave for Sapa (180km) via a picturesque road along the Nam Na River and across Hoang Lien Son, the highest pass in Vietnam (2,047 metres). The rest of the day is free time to wander around Sapa Town, home to different hill-tribes. The evening entertainment is a tribal folk show at a bar. Overnight in Sapa.

Day 6: Sapa (B, L, D) 
Take a morning trek (6km) to visit hill-tribe villages of Lao Chai & Ta Van along picturesque Muong Hoa valley. A trekking trail is over magnificent rice terraced fields, green valley, river and white roof-dotted houses by mountain sides. Get to know more about the daily life of local people (Black H'mong and Day), their ways of living and simple working tools. In the afternoon, transfer to Ta Phin village, see Red Yao at work in their distinctive colourful dress. Overnight in Sapa.

Day 7: Sapa - Bac Ha - Hanoi (B, L, D)
 
Leave for Bac Ha (105km) via a winding road with breath-taking mountain views. Visit Bac Ha Fair (on Sunday only), considered the most lively and crowded in the region. It attracts a large number of Flower H'mong and other hill-tribe groups (Nung, Phu La, Tay). Transfer to Lao Cai (70km). Board the night train to Hanoi (370km). Berths in air-conditioned compartments are provided. Overnight on board.

Day 8: Hanoi - Ha Long (B, L, D)
 
After a 10 hours' ride, arrive at the Hanoi Railway Station early in the morning. Pick up and transfer to Ha Long (170km). The rest of the day is leisure for personal pursuits: relaxing on the sandy beach of Tuan Chau Island, walking on stone steps to Mt. Bai Tho (200m) which offers a panoramic view of Ha Long Bay and shopping for souvenirs on Ha Long Road (coal carvings, embroideries, ceramics,...). Overnight in Ha Long.

Day 9: Ha Long (B, L, D)
 
Take a private boat in Ha Long Bay (8 hours). Spend the whole day viewing the spectacular scenery of countless rock formations, paddling kayaks around picturesque coves with the schooner tagging behind and relaxing on wild sandy beach. Lunch of fresh seafood are served on board. Overnight in Ha Long.

Day 10: Departure from Hanoi (B)
 
Transfer to Hanoi (170km). Spend last minutes for downtown shopping (ceramics, silver-carvings, silk,...) or at leisure before check-out. Transfer to the airport for departure.

Detail Itinerary
Day 1: Arrive Hanoi  
Arrival at Hanoi / Noi Bai international airport and transfer to hotel. The rest of the days free at leisure. Overnight at your selected hotel in Hanoi .

Day 2: Hanoi - Bat Trang - Hai Phong - Halong Bay (B/L)
 
Pick up at the hotel. Drive to Bat Trang, the famous pottery village approximate 15km from Hanoi , which is surrounded by fertile farmland. Watch the artisans form, paint and glaze their products, which are then backed for several days in huge kilns. Proceed to Hai Phong, the largest port in North Vietnam , 102km east of Hanoi . Short orientation tour: Du Hang pagoda and Hang Kenh Communal house, both with fine examples of traditional woodcarvings. After lunch at a local restaurant continue to Halong Bay . Transfer to hotel. Overnight at your selected hotel in Halong city.


 Day 3: Halong Bay - Hanoi (B/L)
 
Discover Halong bay, listed as a World Heritage site. "Dragon descending to the sea" as it is know in Vietnamese, picturesque Halong Bay has more than 1,000 islets rising from the sea, many of them containing beautiful grottoes. Enjoy a relaxing 5-hour boat trip through Halong bay, fresh seafood lunch is prepared and served on board. Afternoon, drive back to Hanoi for overnight.

Day 4: Hanoi city tour (B/L)
 
Full day city tour: Ho Chi Minh Mausoleum (close on Monday, Friday and the entire months of October and November), Ho Chi Minh's Residence, One-Pillar pagoda, Temple of Literature built in the 11th century as Vietnam's first university. Afternoon visit Museum of Ethnology , Hoan Kiem lake with Ngoc Son temple and Old Quarters. Evening: Water puppet show, the unique Vietnamese traditional art.

Day 5: Hanoi - Cuc Phuong National park - Ninh Binh (B/L/D) 
Drive to Cuc Phuong national park 4-hour easy trekking to discover the rich flora of the park. Lunch en route at a local restaurant. Drive to Ninh Binh and transfer to hotel for check in. Dinner and overnight at your selected hotel in Ninh Binh

Day 6: Ninh Binh - Tam Coc - Hoa Lu - Phat Diem - Ninh Binh (B/L)
 
Drive to Hoa Lu, often called " Dry Halong Bay ". Limestone rocks rise from rice fields and winding streams. Enjoy the spectacular scenery during a leisurely boat ride in traditional local sampans to Tam Coc caves. Lunch at local restaurant.

Visit Bich Dong pagoda and temple of the Dinh and Le Dynasties. Proceed to Phat Diem for visiting the stone church, a striking architectural complex in the style of a Vietnamese pagoda. Return to Ninh Binh for accommodation at simple hotel.

Day 7: Ninh Binh - Dong Hoi (B/L)
Full day drive to Dong Hoi through charming rural scenery, where offers a glimpse into the life in the southern Red River Delta. Lunch en route. Arrive in Dong Hoi, transfer to hotel for overnight.

Day 8: Dong Hoi - Phong Nha cave - Vinh Moc tunnels - Hue (B/L)
 
Drive to beautiful Phong Nha caves accessible by boat on the clear water of the Son River . Lunch en route. Proceed south to visit Vinh Moc tunnels, dug to accommodate an underground village safe from American air raids in the north of the DMZ. Continue driving through the sites of the fierce battle fields of Vinh Linh, Doc Mieu and Dong Ha before arriving in Hue , the former Royal city of the 13 ruling Nguyen dynasties. Transfer to hotel. Overnight at your hotel.

Day 9: Hue city tour (B/L)
 
Boat ride on the Perfume River to visit Thien Mu pagoda and Minh Mang tomb. Lunch at a local restaurant. Visit Imperial Citadel with its Forbidden city and Tu Duc tomb and local market. Overnight at your hotel.

Day 10: Hue - Da Nang - Hoi An (B/L) 
Depart by coach to Da Nang . The scenic 4-hour drive via Hai Van pass offers spectacular views of mountains, sea, idyllic beaches and villages. Lunch at a local restaurant. Visit the Cham museum then continue to the Marble Mountains with its beautiful grottoes and temples, which can be reached by climbing steep steps (please wear appropriate shoes). We continue further south to the charming historic city of Hoi An, transfer to hotel for overnight.

Day 11: Hoi An - My Son - HoiAn (B/L)
 
Drive to My Son, the imperial city of the Champa empire of the 4th to 12th centuries, My Son Sanctuary is a large complex of religious ruins comprising more than 70 architectural remains. Return to Hoi An, known to early Western merchant, Hoi An was one of the major trading centers of Southeast Asia in the 16th century. Hoi An has a distinctive Chinese atmosphere with low, tiled-roof houses and narrow street; the original structure of some of these streets is still virtually intact. Many of the houses were constructed of rare timbers and decorated with lacquer panels engraved with Chinese characters and pillars carved with ornamental designs. During a leisurely discovery tour on foot you will visit some of the historic merchant and community houses, places of worship and famous bridges. Overnight in Hoi An.

Day 12: Hoi An - Da Nang - Nha Trang (B/L)
 
Drive to Da Nang and transfer to the airport for a short flight to Nha Trang. Visit the Institute of Oceanography and Po Nagar Cham tower, a sacred Hindu site dating back to the 2nd century AD. The town was built between the 7th and 12th centuries and is still used today as a place of pilgrimage for the Cham and Vietnamese Buddhists. Transfer to hotel. Overnight at your hotel in Nha Trang.

Day 13: Nha Trang (B)
 
Full day at leisure. Ovcernight at hotel.

Day 14: Nha Trang - Ho Chi Minh city (B/L) 
Leisure time until transfer to airport for flight to Ho Chi Minh city . Upon arrival, transfer to hotel and lunch. City tour: War museum, the Post office and Notre Dame Cathedral, former Presidential Palace, (from out side for picture only), China Town with Thien Hau pagoda and local market. Overnight at hotel.

Day 15: Ho Chi Minh City - Tay Ninh / Cu Chi Tunnels (B/L)
 
Drive to Cu Chi and visit the amazing complex of underground tunnels. There are more than 200km of underground tunnels, comprising a main axis system with many branches connecting to underground hideouts, shelters and other tunnels. Proceed to Tay Ninh, center of the Cao Dai religion founded in 1926, a combination of Buddhism, Christianity, Taoism and Confucianism. You will have the opportunity to watch the worshippers in their white long tunics during noon mass. Lunch at a local restaurant. Drive back to Ho Chi Minh City . Overnight at hotel.

Day 16: Ho Chi Minh city - My Tho - Can Tho (B/L)
 
Coach trip to My Tho and visit Vinh Trang pagoda. My Tho is famous for its extensive orchards and immense rice fields. Enjoy a boat ride on the Mekong river and visit an orchard on an island. Lunch at a local restaurant. Drive to Can Tho and transfer to hotel for check in. Overnight in Can Tho.

Day 17: Can Tho - Soc Trang - can Tho - Chau Doc (B/L)
 
Boat trip on the Mekong river to visit Cai Rang floating market, you also have opportunity to watch local villagers producing rice paper, pop-rice, and rice husking. Continue by car to Soc Trang to visit Bat Pagoda, Clay pagoda and Khmer museum. Lunch en route. Drive back to Can Tho. In the afternoon, drive to Chau Doc, with an en route visit by boat to the Bang Lang stork sanctuary in Thot Not. Overnight at your hotel.

Day 18: Chau Doc - Sa Dec - Ho Chi Minh city (B/L)
 
Visit Sam Mountain, Lady Xu temple, Thoai Ngoc Hau temple, Tay An pagoda and boat trip to the Islamic Champa village. Lunch en route. Depart Chau Doc to Sa Dec, visit the flower village. Return Ho Chi Minh city and transfer to hotels. Overnight at your hotel.

Day 19: Ho Chi Minh city - Departure (B)
 
Breakfast at hotel and at leisure until transfer to Tan Son Nhat International Airport for departure.

DAY 1: ARRIVAL - HANOI

we are met and transferred to hotel. Ha Noi , Vietnam's capital, is a stylish and gracious city that retains an unique old world charm and some Asia's most striking colonial architecture. The many lakes and parks make for relaxing atmosphere. If time permits we embark on a cyclo for a short excursion through the bustling old quarter streets named after the specific goods once offered for sale at these places. O/N in Ha Noi.(B)
 


 DAY 2: HANOI

Today we enjoy a full day city tour starting  with the Ho Chi Minh Complex, containing the mausoleum of the nation's founder Ho Chi Minh, the Presidential Palace and the Ho Chi Minh's house on stilts. This complex also comprises the One Pillar Pagoda, whose origins date back to the foundation of city. We follow this with a trip to the Temple of Literature well known as Vietnam's first university and the History Museum, which displays an excellent collection of artifacts illustrating the Vietnamese history. Our next stop is the impressive Ethnologic Museum, dedicated to Vietnam's 54 hill tribe groups, some of which we will see on our forthcoming days. We also visit the peaceful lake of Hoan Kiem with its sacred temple and the vibrant Dong Xuan Market before attending a performance of Hanoi's famous water puppets. O/N in Hanoi. (B)
 
DAY 3: HANOI - SONLA

The journey northwards begins as we depart Hanoi and pass through the undulating terrains of tea plantations and the many timeless villages linked to the road which is the main artery of trade between the northwestern region and the capital city. This is our first glimpse of rural Vietnam and sets the tone for the days ahead. Depending on road and traffic conditions our drive will deliver us in Son La by  mid or late afternoon. After checking into hotel we take a walk around this mountain town. There is a little traffic on roads and many Black Thai in traditional costume scurry in all directions. O/N in Son La. (B)
 
DAY 4: SONLA - DIEN BIEN PHU

The provincial museum and the nearby old prison are some of this hill town's major sights. We have a chance to visit these before we leave for our next destination. The winding roads cross over the Pha Din Pass before reaching Dien Bien Phu, the site of the decisive battle in Vietnam's struggle for independence in 1954. After checking into our central located hotel we  enjoy a walk around to see this fast growing town. Our  main stop  is Dien Bien Phu's Museum which details the event in place. We also pay a visit to the old battle field where the lush vegetation grows behind many war relics including old French tanks and artillery pieces. O/N in Dien Bien Phu .(B)
 
DAY 5: DIEN BIEN PHU - TAM DUONG

Heading out of the town, we spend a full day travelling into Vietnam's most mountainous region. The roads are difficult at times, but the spectacular landscape with a mixture of terraced fields and hill villages makes the hardship all worthwhile. On the way, we have some opportunities to encounter the Red Hmong, Kho Mu, Mang, Dao people who   still retain their age old cultural traditions and are recognisably distinct from each other by their dress. We arrive  in Tam Duong by late afternoon and have time strolling around to catch our first glimpse; a small town surrounded by breathtaking mountains and tea plantations. O/N in Tam Duong. (B)
 
DAY 6: TAM DUONG - SAPA

The scenery of the north is unequalled although the conditions are very simple. After breakfast we set off on a half day drive following the mountain roads to Sa Pa, our final destination. At an elevation of 1,500 meters, Sapa was founded in the early years of the last century as a hill resort for French administrators when the heat on the plain became unbearable. We arrive in Sapa by mid afternoon and can soak up the fresh climate as much as we want by spending our time wandering this famous hill town. The ethnic people are frequently seen on the main street of Sapa and small vendors along the street sell local textiles and handicraft. O/N in Sa Pa. (B)
 
DAY 7: SAPA

The range of Phan Si Pan boasts Vietnam's highest mountain and lends an alpine feel to the area surrounding this hill station. Today we have enough time to visit the bustling Sa Pa Market where the Red Dao, Black Hmong, Tay and Xa Pho ethnic minorities converge from the nearby mountainsides and valleys to trade their goods and buy provisions. We then get well off the beaten track as we embark on a walk to explore this beautiful mountain region. Along the way we traverse several rustic villages and see many mountaineers doing their daily works such as logging, herding buffalo and tilling the field. The blend of verdant mountain backdrop and colourful population makes for an unimaginable view. O/N in Sa Pa. (B)
 
DAY 8: SAPA - MUONG KHUONG - BAC HA ( Sunday)

After breakfast we continue venturing into northern Vietnam, travelling through the Chinese border town of Lao Cai to the colourful Sunday Market at Muong Khuong. This market also attracts a wide variety of ethnic minority groups including the Variegated Hmong, Dao, Phu La, La Chi, Tay who   still retain their age old cultural traditions and are recognisably distinct from each other by their dress. The experience of this congregation is unique. Upon leaving Muong Khuong, we drive to Bac Ha. As option , we can embark a walk this afternoon, visiting the Hmong King's former residence and Ban Pho where the villagers make the potent local maize wine . O/N in Bac Ha. (B)
 
DAY 9: BAC HA - HANOI

The return journey begins as we depart Bac Ha Town and pass through the verdant and rugged mountain scenery to Hanoi. These back roads are a great way to explore the real Vietnam. We see very few other travellers, mostly rural dwellers who are just as interested in finding out about our lives as we are of theirs. The drive is very long , but we can can make many stops along the way to stretch our legs and take some wonderful  photographs. O/N in Ha Noi. (B)
 
DAY 10: HANOI - HALONG

Upon leaving the town we set off on a scenic overland trip to Ha Long Bay. As pleasure we make stop in Hai Phong, the biggest port town of northern Vietnam. There are plenty to see in this bustling town, some of which are  the Hang Kenh Communal House, the Du Hang Pagoda,  the Hang Kenh Carpet Factory and the vibrant Sat Market. A drive through tree lined boulevards punctuated with many striking French colonial architecture, will deliver us to some of these landmarks. We continue our journey Halong Bay and spend the remainder of the day for a well - earned rest on Bai Chay Beach. O/N in Ha Long. (B)
 
DAY 11: HALONG - HANOI

The legendary Ha Long Bay is truly one of Vietnam's most impressive scenic sights. Today we embark on a sailing boat for a seven hour cruise around this wondrous bay, dotted with some 3,000 limestone islands rising amazingly from the clear and emerald water. The limestone karst formations are littered with beaches, grottoes and beautiful caves. Along the way we will anchor for a leisurely swim in a secluded cove and an enjoyable visit to one of the many hidden grottoes. O/N in Ha Noi. (B)

DAY 1: HANOI ARRIVAL
 
Arrive at Noi Bai Airport. Meet and transfer to hotel. Take a glimpse of Ha Noi on a short city tour to see the cultural richness of the capital of Vietnam. Tour includes Ngoc Son Temple or pagoda of the jade mountain standing at the northern end of Sword Lake which provides relaxing atmosphere. Then proceed to the Old Quarter consisting of 36 commercial streets, each lined with ancient architectural works harmonized with lakes lying between. Overnight stay in Hanoi.
 


 DAY 2: HANOI CITY TOUR 
Continue the sightseeing tour in Ha Noi by the first visit to Ho Chi Minh Mausoleum where the body of Ho Chi Minh is well kept. Then visit his house built on stilts situated nearby. Followed by the visit to One Pillar Pagoda, built by the Emperor Ly Thai Tong in 1049; it was built of wood on a single stone pillar, designed to resemble a lotus blossom which is a symbol of purity. Afterward, go for the Temple of Literature with its ancient Vietnam architecture, dedicated to Confucian cult which broke the Buddhist monopoly in education. The temple was then regarded as the site of the first university of Vietnam Continue the route to the Art museum which gathers a collection of prestige artifacts of Vietnam. Historical Museum is the next destination; here you will see the all encompassing Vietnam, its past and also its future. Enjoy the remarkable evening in Hanoi with Water Puppet Show which will make you appreciate the cultural background of Vietnam with the spectacular techniques of performance. Overnight stay in Ha Noi.

DAY 3: HANOI - SA PA
 
In early morning, depart for Sapa by a ten-hour-road trip. On the way, enjoy the majestic greatness of Western North Mountains. Check-in at hotel upon arrival in Sapa and have dinner as well as overnight.

DAY 4: SA PA TREKKING TOUR
 
Start a day in Sapa with a trek for five kilometers. On the trail, you will visit Catcat Mountain to experience the traditional life of Black H'Mong people living around the region and then see the electric-hydro waterfall built by French in 1925. Along the way, enjoy panoramic view of the entire area with many terraced paddy fields. Continue to visit Silver waterfall, one of the famous attraction in Sapa and O Quy Ho pass which offer magnificent view. In the afternoon, visit Dragon Jaw Mountain and overview Sapa Town from the height. After dinner, attend “Love Market” of Red Dao minority people, one of the characteristic cultures of minority people in Northwestern highlands of Vietnam (every Saturday evening). Overnight in Sapa.

DAY 5: SA PA - LAI CHAU
 
Transfer to Lai Chau inhabited by a large number of hill tribe people. On the way to Phong Tho, visit some ethnic villages. Continue to Lai Chau to have dinner an overnight.

DAY 6: LAI CHAU - DIEN BIEN PHU
 
Today, you will be lost in the memory of wartime. Firstly, visit the museum of the battle field, and 
headquarters of Colonel Christian Catries. Old French tanks and artillery pieces can be seen here also. Dinner and overnight in Dien Bien Phu.

DAY 7: DIEN BIEN PHU - SON LA
 
Transfer to Son La and touch the air of historic event at French prison. Then relax and free your mind at Hot Springs and natural caves in the area. Dinner and overnight in Son La.

DAY 8: SON LA - HANOI
 
Return to Ha Noi while visiting small ethnic hamlets scattering along the way from Yen, Chau, Moc Chao to Hoa Binh (Muong Tahi people). Arrive in Ha Noi and overnight

DAY 9: HANOI - DEPARTURE 
Transfer to Ha Noi AIRPORT for departure.

DAY 1: HANOI - NGHIA LO

This adventure tour in Vietnam and you will meet Lotussia Travel guide driver 7:30am at the HOTEL, Soon the bustling streets of Hanoi give way to verdant rice paddies and farmland along Hwy 32. By early afternoon you'll be moving away from the Red River Delta and into the mountains of Yen Bai province, on your way to your destination of Nghia Lo. Nghia Lo is situated along a beautiful mountain ridge separating the Red and Black river. With lush forests, tea plantations, rice terraces and gum trees, the picturesque valleys are stunning. The area is home to Thai, Nung, H'mong, La Ha and Ma ethnic minority peoples. Overnight in hotel .( L, D)


 DAY 2: NGHIAN LO - THAN UYEN

This day starts with a visit to the local market in Nghia Lo Town, a chance to explore and shop for local handicrafts. Today's drive will take you along one of the most exciting stretches of road in Vietnam and offers some of the most lush and verdant scenery found anywhere. As you climb over the mountain pass to Mu Cang Chai you'll meet H'mong, La Ha and Dzao along the way. The road, which is not sealed and can be muddy and exiting at times, winds along the Nam Kim river which descends the valley over some cascading gorges. At the bottom of the valley you'll arrive in the town of Than Uyen where you'll spend the night in hotel ( B, L, D)
 
DAY 3: THAN UYEN - SA PA

Enjoy breakfast in a local restaurant, then its time to hit the road for Sapa. From Than Uyen the road rolls along the base of the Hoang Lien Son Mountain Range, home to Mt. Fansipan, Vietnams highest peak. Tea plantations and rice terraces hug the Nam Ma river that winds along this valley dotted with Tay, Dzao and H'mong villages. At Binh Lu junction you'll pick up the main road and start your climb up the highest mountain pass in Vietnam at 1900 Meters, then glide down into the town of Sapa. Enjoy lunch and relax before a 3 hr short trek down this stunning valley sculpted with steep rice terraces, to Ta Van village for a home stay. Your guide will cook you a savory dinner of traditional Vietnamese food that you'll be raving about, as you enjoy the hospitality of your Dzay hosts.( B, L)
 
DAY 4:SA PA TREKKING

along rice terraces, through lush bamboo forest and local villages including that of the colourful Dzao hill tribe, and down to a rolling stream for a picnic lunch. After lunch, continue trekking along the rice terraces, trails and dirt roads into Ban Ho for an insightful night with your Tay hosts, where you'll sleep in the cozy loft complete with comfy mattress and a mosquito net.( B, L, D)
 
DAY 5: SA PA SHORT TREK

To the dirt road for the jeep ride back to Sapa. Enjoy a afternoon to explore Sapa town, great shopping in the market for local produce and you can buy handicrafts from many of the local hill tribes selling their wares there. Bus departs Green Trail Tours office in Sapa 4:30pm, arrive Lao Cai 6:00pm Night train back to Hanoi (soft sleeper aircon). Trip ends 5:00am Hanoi station.(  B).

DAY 1 : ARRIVAL - HANOI

You are met and transferred to hotel. Ha Noi , Vietnam's capital, is a stylish and gracious city that retains an unique old world charm and some Asia's most striking colonial architecture. The many lakes and parks make for relaxing atmosphere. (If time permit ) we enjoy a short cyclo excursion through the bustling old quarter streets named after the specific goods once offered for sale at these places. O/N in Ha Noi.(B)



DAY 2: HANOI - MAI CHAU

This morning we enjoy a half day city tour starting with the Ho Chi Minh Complex. This famous site contains the mausoleum of the nation's founder Ho Chi Minh, the Presidential Palace , the Ho Chi Minh's house on stilts  and the One Pillar Pagoda. The following sights are the Temple of Literature and the peaceful lake of Hoan Kiem with its sacred temple. We also make stop at  the impressive Ethnologic Museum, dedicated to Vietnam's 54 ethnic minorities, some of which we will see on our forthcoming days. Heading out of the town, we travel by road to Mai Chau, an idyllic valley populated by the many White Thai people. There are some opportunities en route to visit the Dao Son Dau and the Muong hill tribe groups. O/N in Mai Chau. (B,D)

DAY 3 : MAI CHAU - SONLA

Upon leaving Mai Chau the roads begins to deteriorate; however many villages dot the hillsides and undulating terrain make for an interesting journey. Along the way we stop in Xa Linh for a two hour trek past many timeless hill villages which are home of the Hmong hill tribe people. Travelling across the Moc Chau Plateau  we catch a glimpse of the many tea plantations and see the Black Thai hill tribe people. They belong to the same Thai ethnic group, but are  different from the White Thai in Mai Chau by their tradition and habits. O/N in Son La. (B)

DAY 4: SONLA - DIEN BIEN PHU

The provincial museum and the nearby old prison are some of this hill town's major sights. We have a chance to visit these before we leave for our next destination. The winding roads cross over the Pha Din Pass before reaching Dien Bien Phu, the site of the decisive battle in Vietnam's struggle for independence in 1954. After checking into our central located hotel we  enjoy a walk around to see this fast growing town. Our  main stop  is Dien Bien Phu's Museum which details the event in place. We also pay a visit to the old battle field where the lush vegetation grows behind many war relics including old French tanks and artillery pieces. O/N in Dien Bien Phu .(B)

DAY  5: DIEN BIEN PHU - LAI CHAU

The journey north continues on to Lai Chau Town, our base for exploring the surrounding areas These back roads are a great way to explore the real Vietnam. We see very few other travellers, mostly rural dwellers who are just as interested in finding out about our lives as we are of theirs. After checking into hotel, we embark on a boat for a two hour trip along the Da River, passing through the stunning mountain landscapes. The pace is very relaxed, a perfect way to observe the local lifestyle close up. O/N in Lai Chau. (B)

DAY  6: LAI CHAU - MUONG TE - LAI CHAU

An early morning departure to Muong Te. This upstream area of  the Da River is settled by many ethnic minority groups including the Thai, Ha Nhi, Cong , Si La and La Hu, just some of Vietnam's most colourful ethnic groups. The roads conditions are very poor; however the verdant and rugged mountain scenery combined with the colorful local population makes the hardship all worthwhile. Along the way we stop at seldom visited villages, a great chance for photographers. O/N in Lai Chau. (B)

DAY 7: LAI CHAU - SINHO - TAM DUONG
Today we continue venturing into northern Vietnam with the next stop being Sin Ho which is home land of  the Red Hmong, Kho Mu, Mang and Dao ethnic minorities. They are settled there longtime ago and still retain their traditional culture and habits. The trip to Sin Ho is occasionally suspended due to the restriction of the local authority. Departing Sin Ho we make our way past the hilly region to Tam Duong. This timeless town is surrounded by  stunning mountain backdrops and lush tea plantations. O/N in Tam Duong. (B)

DAY 8: TAM DUONG - BINH LU - SAPA

The scenery of the north is unequalled although the conditions are very simple. After breakfast we drive following the main artery of trade in northwestern region. This bumpy road links to many hill towns and villages. At an elevation of 1,500 meters, Sapa was founded in the early years of the last century as a hill resort for French administrators when the heat on the plain became unbearable. After checking into hotel we can soak up the fresh climate as much as we want by spending our time wandering around this charming town and some legacies of the French period. O/N in Sa Pa. (B)

DAY  9: SAPA

The huge range of Phan Si Pan boasts Vietnam's highest mountain and lends an alpine feel to the area surrounding this hill station. Today we have enough time to visit the bustling Sa Pa Market where the Red Dao, Black Hmong, Tay and Xa Pho ethnic minorities converge from the nearby mountainsides and valleys to trade their goods and buy provisions. We get well off the beaten track as we embark on a walk to discover this beautiful mountain region. Along the way we traverse several rustic villages and see many mountaineers doing their daily works such as logging, herding buffalo and tilling the field. O/N in Sa Pa. (B)

DAY 10: SAPA - BATXAT - LAOCAI

Heading out of town, we make our way through the breathtaking mountain landscape to Bat Xat. The weather  in this region is cool due to the high altitude. On arrival, we embark on a short walk, passing through several villages which is populated by the Phu La, Dao and Giay ethnic minorities. They are very poor, but have an interesting local culture and a colorful history. A part of the pleasure of travelling in this region is the simple joy of seeing hill tribe people. We continue our  trip to Lao Cai border town, our final destination. O/N in Lao Cai. (B)

DAY  11: LAOCAI - MUONG KHUONG - BAC HA ( Sunday)

The weekend market of Muong Khuong also attracts a wide variety of ethnic minority groups such as Hmong, Dao, Thu Lao, Pa Di, Tu Di and  Phu La. After breakfast, we embark on a  two hour drive delivering  to Muong Khuong Town. There is a wonderful experience to wander around this colorful  congregation. In the early afternoon, we travel by roads  to Bac Ha. This is basically an overnight stop to break our long journey. After checking into hotel we can enjoy walk to visit the Hmong King's former residence and Ban Pho where  villagers make the potent local maize alcohol. O/N in Bac Ha. (B)

DAY 12 :BAC HA - HOANG SU PHI - HA GIANG

Upon leaving Bac Ha we set off on a full day journey through Sin Man and Hoang Su Phi to  Ha Giang Town. The rough but scenic route traverse a dense jungle before crossing over a pass and dropping down to Sin Man. This day is a real challenge for our driver as we travel by winding roads with many uphill and down hill drives. Along the way we may encounter the Nung Ing, Tay, Red Dao, Dao Ao Dai, La Chi and Co Lao, just some of the many hill tribe groups who have settled there. O/N in Ha Giang. (B)

DAY 13: HA GIANG - SA PHIN - DONG VAN

The remote region of Dong Van and Meo Vac is a land of rugged mountains and beautiful hill villages  which are unchanged for centuries.  Today we head north west out of Ha Giang Town towards this northernmost tip of Vietnam. The former H'mong royal house at Sa Phin is a primary attraction of the region but the blend of hill tribe people's colorful costumes and the majestic mountainous scenery make this long and  bumpy trip an unforgettable experience. O/N in Dong Van. (B)

DAY 14: DONG VAN - MEO VAC - HAGIANG

The ethnic minority people are frequently seen in this hill town and small vendors along the street sell local textiles and handicraft. We have time to visit Dong Van Town  before continuing to Meo Vac which is conquered by the Lo Lo and Pu Peo ethnic minority people. They still retain their age old cultural traditions and are recognisably distinct from each other by their dress. The remoteness and the simple lifestyle of local people are a highlight of Meo Vac although conditions are very basic. We return to Ha Giang via Yen Minh, using a shortcut way.  O/N in Ha Giang. (B)

DAY  15: HAGIANG - BAC ME - BAO LAC - NGUYEN BINH -  BABE LAKES

An early morning start to drive through the rolling hills and the picturesque scenery to Ba Be National Park. The roads are very bumpy and zigzagging however we will have a  chance to meet the Hmong, Dao, Tay and Nung ethnic minorities who make for the main population of this region. We are sure to attract their attention as this part of the country receive very few visitors. Depending on road and traffic conditions we arrive in Ba Be by  late afternoon or early evening, but it is till an interesting day. O/N in Cho Ra. (B)

DAY  16: BABE LAKES

The legendary lake of Ba Be is just one continuous water body although the name means'' three lakes''. Today we embark on a  boat cruising down the Nang River which is the main water source of the lake. This exciting river trip  will give us a taste of the tranquil countryside and an enjoyable exploration of the Ba Be National Park. We traverse  en route the Poong Grotto before stopping at some nearby hill tribe villages and getting off the beaten track to the scenic Dau Dang Waterfalls. O/N in Cha Ra. (B)

DAY 17: BABE - CAO BANG

The following destination of our trip is Cao Bang Town. After breakfast we set off on our half day journey past the spectacular mountainous landscapes, with a mixture of steep terraced rice field and hill villages. Along the way, we can made stops at our pleasure, to stretch our legs and shoot some wonderful photographs. The remainder of the day will be free to explore the town or simply to relax. O/N in Cao Bang. (B)

DAY 18: CAO BANG -  PAC PO CAVES - LANG SON

Heading out of town , we make our way north to the historical cave of Pac Po where Ho Chi Minh set up the headquarter for the August Vietnamese Revolution in 1945. After seeing this vestige site we continue our journey past the  many hill villages and the tranquil town of Dong Khe and That Khe. The drive will deliver us into Lang Son by late afternoon. This border town had been all destroyed during the recent Sino - Vietnamese war, but was rebuilt to become an important trade center in north eastern region.  O/N in Lang Son. (B)

DAY 19: LANG SON - HALONG

The lively central market of Lang Son and the legendary Tam Thanh Cave are visited this morning before we depart for Halong, truly one of Vietnam's most impressive scenic sights. The drive is difficult at times as we travel  through many mountain areas. Their breathtaking scenery is some of the best in Asia. We have some opportunities en route to visit the Tay, Nung and San Diu hill tribe people. On arrival in Halong we spend the remainder of the day for a well- earned rest on a Beach. O/N in Ha Long. (B)

DAY 20: HALONG - HANOI

Today we embark on a sailing boat for an exploration of Halong Bay. This exciting five hour cruise provides a fantastic view of the  bay which is dotted with some 3,000 limestone islands rising amazingly from the clear and emerald water. The limestone karst formations are littered with beaches, grottoes and beautiful caves. Along the way we will anchor for a leisurely swim in a secluded cove and an enjoyable visit to one of the many hidden grottoes beneath towering cliffs. After a seafood lunch on board we return to Hanoi, arriving in time to see a performance of Hanoi's famous water puppets. O/N in Ha Noi. (B,L)

DAY 21: HANOI - DEPARTURE

 DAY  2 : HANOI
 
Today we enjoy a full day city tour starting  with the Ho Chi Minh Complex, containing the mausoleum of the nation's founder Ho Chi Minh, the Presidential Palace and the Ho Chi Minh's house on stilts. This complex also comprises the One Pillar Pagoda, whose origins date back to the foundation of city. We follow this with a trip to the Temple of Literature well known as Vietnam's first university and the History Museum, which displays an excellent collection of artifacts illustrating the Vietnamese history. Our next stop is the impressive Ethnologic Museum, dedicated to Vietnam's 54 hill tribe groups, some of which we will see on our forthcoming days. We also visit the peaceful lake of Hoan Kiem with its sacred temple and the vibrant Dong Xuan Market before attending a performance of Hanoi's famous water puppets. O/N in Hanoi. (B)

DAY 3: HANOI - BABE LAKE
 
The journey northeast begins as we depart the town and pass through the undulating terrain of tea plantation and the many timeless villages linked to the road which is the main artery of trade between the northeastern region and the capital city. This is our first glimpse of rural Vietnam and sets the tone for the days ahead. Depending on road and traffic conditions our drive will leave us with a mid to late afternoon arrival in Ba Be lakes. After checking into hotel we will have free time to walk around or simply to relax on the lake. O/N in Ba Be. (B)

DAY  4: BABE - CAOBANG
 
The national park of Ba Be is centred on large Ba Be Lake. This is just one continuous water body although its name means ''three lakes''. Today we embark on our boat navigating around the lake, which gives us a taste of relaxation and an enjoyable visit to the park . Along the way, we make stopover at some hill tribe villages before getting off the beaten track to the Dau Dang Waterfalls. The cruise continues on the main water source of Ba Be Lake up to Cho Ra. At this small village, we meet up with our vehicle and drive towards Cao Bang, our final destination. O/N in Cao Bang. (B,L)

DAY 5: CAO BANG - BANGIOC WATERFALL - CAOBANG
 
Heading out of the town we start venturing into the most northern region of Cao Bang Province. The scenic roads traverse Trung Khanh before arriving at Ban Gioc Waterfall, which boasts the largest waterfall in Vietnam. We visit this sight and follow our trip to Nguom Ngao Caves, just off the road to Cao Bang. This enormous cave has two main entrances and one branch reaching almost all the way to the waterfalls where is a 'secret' entrance. A local guide is provided for your exploration of the cave. On the way back, you can make stops as you please, to visit hill tribe villages and take pictures. O/N in Cao Bang. (B,L)

DAY 6: CAO BANG - PAC PO CAVE - LANG SON
