Biking 4 days/3 nights, Saigon - TraVinh - CanTho - Sadec

Biking Mekong Delta on Nov 2011. More than 300,000 ethnic Khmer people in the Mekong Delta province of Tra Vinh are preparing for Sene Dolta - one of their largest traditional festivals. The festival, including diverse activities such as traditional song and dance performances and games, is held annually by Khmer people to express their thanks for bumper harvests. This year's event falls on September 28-30 in Tra Vinh province. The festive mood is further buoyed as close to 24,000 poor households have moved into new houses built by the local authorities. Schools have also been built in all villages, bringing the rate of ethnic children going to school in the 2008-2009 academic year to 96 percent. The provincial radio and television station runs daily programs in Khmer language, and local authorities publish the Tra Vinh weekly along with many other publications in the in the ethnic language for the community.

Day 1: Sai Gon - Tra Vinh (L/D) (25-45 km)
Transfer 2 hours on the freeway to Ben Tre where we will cycle through coconut gardens to remote villages. Stop for a coffee break and you can take a walk to experience the living of the locals. Then continue to cycle on nice concrete roads to Huong My village where we will have a picnic lunch. After lunch, we cycle on red-dirt roads through the homeland of coconut to local boat station and cross the Co Chien River. Continue your bike ride to Tra Vinh in late afternoon.


 Day 2: Tra Vinh – Can Tho (B/L/D) (60-85 km)
Tra Vinh has considered the homeland to Khmer and there are numerous Khmer temples in the province. The population of Khmer is around 35%.In the morning, we ride to the Ba Om Lake ("Ao Ba Om") and the temple of Ba Om. Your guide will tell you about in interesting story regarding Khmer men and the lady Ba Om.  Then riding on back roads, ride pass the traditional villages of Khmer, keep riding on concrete roads through rice field, stop for a visit to a Khmer family and take some photos of beautiful countryside. Then ride to Tra Met village, stop for a picnic lunch. In the afternoon, we ride to Binh Minh town via to Vinh Xuan and Tra On. Transfer to Can Tho in late afternoon.

Day 3: Can Tho - Sadec (B/L/D) (40-70 km)
Wake up early in the morning, enjoy boat trip to Cain Rang floating market, visit the fish market and many houses on stilts along the river banks. You will have the opportunity to watch the largest and busiest floating market in the Mekong Delta. Back to hotel for breakfast and leave for Sadec town. Transfer to local market nearby and start biking to Sadec, pedal through sweet potato plantations and many small manmade canals. Have a picnic lunch before we bike to Sadec in the afternoon.

Day 4: Sadec – Saigon (B/L/) (35 km)
Take a 5 minute walk to the market in town by the river. You have a chance to see the real life of people here, and visit Huynh Thuy Le's house, made famous by The Lover, a movie about the story of Margaret Duras, in which Madame Margueret loved a Chinese man in this town before 1932. Then take the public boat to the other side of small river to admire the many old French-style villas. Check out of the hotel and cycle to Xeo Quyt base, the only Viet Cong base with a small tunnel system under the huge mangrove forest in Mekong region. A Viet Cong guide will take you to mangrove forest by row boat. Your lunch will be prepared when you visiting this base.Coutinue bicycling footpaths along waterway to the high roads where your driver standby and having a transfer back to Ho Chi Minh.
