Hanoi Bike Tours Cycle Bat Trang Village (1 day)

The one-day bicycle tour is customized for family travel, holidays with kids and local expats and those loving an active, fun day tours around Hanoi. Start your day tour by biking along the red river dyke. You pedal through popcorn and rice fields and typical Hanoi urban villages to Bat Trang ceramic village. Opportunity to learn how to make a pottery, to discover a thousand-year old village before either riding further to Van Giang village, a pure agriculture village of the northern Vietnam. See Chau Van traditional music performances, visit ancient houses or learning to cook Vietnamese dishes…these are some activities you can assist before being picked up again by your support vehicle and transferred back to Hanoi. Itinerary:

7:00 am you will be met up with Lotussia Travel guide at your hotel in Hanoi (please advise your hotel name). After a short briefing about the bike, gears and the biking trail, you will begin your adventure by pedaling from your hotel (for those who are not familiar with cycling in the city where the traffic is quite busy, we recommend booking a support vehicle. The extra charge will be advised by your Lotussia Travel consultant when you book the tour).

After about a half hour, you will cycle through the most busy area of the town, arriving Long Bien Bridge,  the first steel bridge spanning the Red River in Hanoi, built by the French (1899-1902) and named for Doumer, read as though-love (the name of Governor Paul Doumer Indochina).
After crossing the bridge, you arrive the other side of the Red River. You will cycle along the dyke, and through corn fields, Hanoi rural villages.

After about three hour cycle, you will arrive Bat Trang pottery village. Located on the dykes of the Red River, Bat Trang is popular for being an ancient pottery handicrafts village. Most of the pottery kilns in the village still produce goods in the traditional way, which is similar to the ancient way dating back 700 years.
You will see the ancient art of ceramic making at a workshop or you can learn and try to make a clay product in one of many of the families producing these fine works of art.
After discovering the handicraft village, you continue cycling east towards the charming village of Van Giang where you will have lunch in a traditional house.
After lunch, enjoy a cup of green tea as take part in traditional music performance (Quan Ho, Trau Van & Ca Tru Folk Song) at yard.
Enjoy some more cycle if you like before being picked up by Lotussia vehicle and transferred back to Hanoi. Trip ends.
 
About Bat Trang village:
Bat Trang, a small village in the north of Viet Nam, is about 13 kilometers southeast of Hanoi center, on the other side of the Red River. The village is famous for ceramic and pottery products of high quality.
If you have known about Viet Nam, you may not be surprised that Bat Trang’s vases, bowls, dishes, and many other kinds of ceramic products have been exported worldwide. Bat Trang Village is said to be established in the 14th or 15th century in several documents. However, according to the villagers, the village perhaps appeared earlier. There are always two stories concerning the village’s origin. One of these tells that under Lý Dynasty, in 1100, when the nation was in its independence and initial growth period, there were three scholars who came back from their mission trip to China bringing the ceramic craft industry learned there back to Viet Nam and taught the people of Bat Trang.

In the other story, the village history dates back to the 10th century, when King Ly Cong Uan relocated the capital in Thang Long. With the establishment and development of the capital, many businessmen, crafters from many areas come to settle down here to work and trade. In Bat Trang, there was a lot of white clay, so that many potters……….
